Applying this patch will upgrade your Xpression News setup to version 2.0.2. The patch can be downloaded here.

HOW TO APPLY

In the downloaded archive, you will find 5 files:

archives.php
functions.php
index.php
news.php
skin.php

Open your FTP client and navigate to the folder where you installed Xpression News. Do a full backup of the Xpression folder so you can easily revert back to version 2-0-0 if something goes wrong.

Then, copy the files from the archive to replace the ones on your server.

Now login to Xpression News and check the Version indicator. It should read 2-0-2.
Two vulnerabilities found in Xpression News 2.0.0 have been fixed. The fix has been included in the latest package, available for download. For current users of Xpression News, I recommend downloading this archive which contains two files:

- functions.php
- captcha.php

Open your Xpression News folder and copy the above files, overwriting the old ones. Remember to perform a backup of the old files. This should upgrade your Xpression News setup to Version 2.0.0 Build 2211.
Xpression News was initially designed for my personal website almost two years ago. Soon after I finished working on the first version I decided to give it a go and publish my web script in an open directory. The success it had in these years surprised me.

Now, despite my absence from this web site since I published version 2.0.0, I'm writing to announce that I haven't gave up on the project and I am currently working on version 3.0.0 which will have, among other features, the following advantages:

- Faster load time
- Completely search engine friendly
- Improved front end and back end interface
- A new WYSIWYG editor

To make sure that the final project will exceed your expectations I am inviting you to join the beta testing team for Xpression News 3.0.0.
If you wish to join, drop an email to contact [at] xpression.hogsmeade-village.com and you will be notified once a BETA version will be available.

After quite some time since my last update here on X-News I finally managed to publish version 2.0.0 of Xpression News. I know, I skipped a few numbers but that doesn't matter that much taking into consideration that over 10000 X-News users have been waiting for the "Latest Version" indicator to change in their X-News control panels.

Version 2.0.0 (third published version) brings tons of new features and corrects some bugs and security issues. So, what's new?

A lot of people requested a WYSIWYG editor. Good news! The latest X-News features one. Another important update is the Ad Engine (allows you to implement your own AdSense Ads into your news section). For the complete list of features click here.

This new version is published as Freeware. You are allowed to use it for both commercial and personal interest. Please read the license file for more information.

Once again, I would like to thank everyone who helped X-News evolve. Thanks to r0ut3r for pointing out an important vulnerability that is now fixed, thanks to Angelos Pitsos for the Greek language file, thanks to Florin Berechet for the Romanian language file and thanks to you for using my script!

UPGRADING: For those of you who downloaded previous X-News versions, you can easily upgrade your software by installing X-news 2.0.0 at a new location and then using the brand new Synchronization wizard and passing it the path to your old xnews folder.
A very important security patch has been released to correct a problem detected in versions 1.0.0 and 1.0.1 of Xpression News. I strongly recommend all X-News users to download it and apply it on all their X-News installations.

You may download the patch here.

The X-News version available for download on this web site has been patched. All users that installed X-News after this article was posted are not vulnerable.

Credit for the discovery of this bug goes to r0ut3r (writ3r [at] gmail.com)
I know! It's been way over a month. My estimations turned out to be completely wrong regarding the release of this new version. The first version of X-News was released on the 24th of August and it has so far recorded over 4000 hits on the HotScripts.com directory which was quite a surprise to me.
So why the delay? There were numerous bugs I had to fix (you can't get it right from the first time) and a great number of features to add. Also, this month of September was very full for me because of some personal issues so I had little time to work on this project. I would like to say a huge "Thanks!" to all of you who reported bugs or suggested features. Also, I would like to thank Astie for translating the script into Dutch.
As you might have noticed, one of the main features introduced in this version is the multilanguage support, currently supporting English and Dutch (more languages soon to come). For a full list of fixed bugs and added features, consult the README file attached to the script.

UPGRADING:

For those of you who downloaded the first X-News version, you can easily upgrade your software by installing X-news 1.0.1 at a new location and then using the brand new Synchronization wizard and passing it the path to your old xnews folder.
It's been little more than a week since the first version of Xpression News was released and it had so far recorded over 1000 downloads. Today I started working at a new version (1.0.1) that will probably be ready until next month. If you already downloaded the released version and you want more features, you can send your suggestions to me: contact at xpression.hogsmeade-village.com. Also, I will be installing a forum for this website so I can offer you a better support. I would like to thank Sandro for his donation that encouraged me to continue working on this project.
The write error that was generated by the automatic installer is now fixed. I would like to thank those guys who wrote in and complained about it. With your help I can make things better [::blink1]!
